Canoeing is a multifaceted activity, ranging from tranquility dabbling in backwaters to the athleticism of sprint racing, along with marathon racing, canoe polo, and sea and surf kayaking. There are eight active clubs affiliated with Canoe SA over metropolitan and regional Adelaide participating in all types of canoeing. Clubs welcome your membership and can bear instruction, training or coaching. Some clubs also can provide access to club equipment. The Board of Directors consists of a President, elected by the membership every two years at the ABM and five interested directors, with an addition of a plausible two autonomous directors. The Chairperson of the Board is a position elected by the Directors at the beginning Board meeting behind the ABM. The Chairperson’s role is to chair all Board meetings and the ABM. The term of office for all elected positions on the Board is for two years. In each peculiar year, the President and two directors are elected and in each even year, three directors are elected (in accordance with the constitution). Playing canoe polo and contributing to the development of the sport is what Peter enjoys. Peter’s involvement with the administration and organizing aspects of canoe polo began with simple tasks such as setting up and packing away equipment, assisting with timekeeper and scorer duties and more recently with refereeing duties. As relatively new to the sport, Peter recognized there was a lot to learn about the sport and how it is organized so that he could make a definite contribution. As a Board member Peter wants to assist with providing strong corporate governance of the organization, regulation of the finances, and contribute to fresh opportunities for the development of the sport. Peter hopes he is capable to bring a fresh, certain and motivating energy to the Board slick and serving the canoeing kayaking sporting community with his efforts. Through both tertiary studies in employment, Peter has gained knowledge in financial management, banking, commercial law, corporate governance, and legal compliance. Peter wants to use these skills in serving as a Director on the Board of Canoe SA. The constitution provides for a standing committees of the Board to be responsible for particular areas of the sport and to assist the Board in its governance and operational tasks. The constitution sets out the provisions for life membership of the Association 7.3 Life Members: (a) Any member may nominate a person who has rendered eminent or notable service to the sport of canoeing at the state level, for life membership. (b) The Board must confirm any nominations earlier to their consideration at an Annual General Meeting. (c) The nomination for Life Member shall be considered at the Annual General Meeting. Audited Financial Statements are available to financial members of the association.
